Mica Millar
Releasing her debut album ‚Heaven Knows‘ to critical acclaim in 2022, Mica Millar has quickly become one of the brightest stars of British Soul music, picking up Jazz FM’s prestigious ‚Soul Act of The Year 2022‘ and becoming a member of The Recording Academy (class of 2023) making her eligible for Grammy Award consideration for future releases.
Mastered at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, who cited ‘Heaven Knows’ as one of the studios favorite albums of 2022, Mica’s debut is self-written, arranged and produced, exploring themes of human nature, spirituality, love, oppression, inequality and empowerment and drawing inspiration from a plethora of vintage soundscapes, most notably, soul, blues, gospel and jazz. The album has been streamed over 12 Million times on Spotify.
In the UK, Mica continues to tour extensively and has to date, performed over thirty headline shows at some of the UK’s most iconic venues including The Jazz Cafe and Union Chapel in London and The Albert Hall in Manchester. In 2023, Mica joined Gregory Porter at The Royal Albert Hall and Lionel Richie at Blenheim Palace as a special guest and has performed to packed festival audiences everywhere from Love Supreme to Cambridge Club and Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
In 2024, Mica will join Gladys Knight on her NL/UK farewell tour for thirteen dates in June and July performing at venues such as The Royal Albert Hall and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Internationally, Mica has performed on WDR Television and Radio Eins, Berlin as well as picking up ongoing radio support from WDR, DeutschlandFunk Kultur (Germany), Jazz Radio (France), NPO Soul & Jazz (The Netherlands) and many more.
Selling out her first european headline shows at Dortmund Konzerthause, Jasmine, Warsaw and two back to back shows at Blue Note Jazz Club, Milan, Mica’s forthcoming European tour was announced earlier this year and will see her perform at some of Europe’s most prestigious Jazz Clubs including New Morning, (Paris) Tivolivredenburg (Utrecht), Zakk (Dusseldorf), Moods (Zurich), LantarenVenster (Rotterdam), Unterfahart (Munich) and Ronnie Scotts (London), the latter selling out in less than 24 hours.
In the UK, ‚Heaven Knows‘ has received critical acclaim and five star reviews across the British press including The Daily Express, Music Week, Jazzwise, Record Collector, The Official Charts, Echoes Magazine, Jazzwise and WordPlay Magazine.
She has since featured on the front covers of the iconic Blues & Soul Magazine and Echoes Magazine amidst playlist, interviews and live performances across national radio and TV including BBC 4 TV, ITV, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4, 6 Music, Jazz FM and Magic FM with tastemakers such as Trevor Nelson (BBC Radio 2), Craig Charles and Jamie Cullum (BBC 6 Music) being amongst her champions.
Whilst Mica remains entirely independent, releasing ‘Heaven Knows’ via her own record label, Golden Hour Music, the album has so far achieved streaming figures in excess of 10 Million globally.
An artist described as ““a superstar in waiting” (Louder Than War) and “The future of British Soul Music“ (Jazz FM, Head of Music), Mica’s rise can be credited to her “masterful” live performances (Record Collector) and the “intense emotional sincerity” (Blues & Soul) of her vocal performances. ‘Heaven Knows’ is a collection of “timeless and euphoric” songs (The Daily Mirror), audibly crafted with a great deal of „creativity, care and attention” (Echoes Magazine) resulting in “an outstanding debut album” (Blues & Soul) and one that sets Mica apart as an artists deserving of the accolades she continues to receive.
